The Grade 9 Mathematics course is designed to strengthen learners’ foundational mathematical skills and prepare them for the transition into Further Education and Training (FET) Mathematics in Grade 10.
The course follows the CAPS/DBE curriculum and covers key Grade 9 topics such as Whole Numbers, Integers, Common Fractions, Decimal Fractions, Exponents, Numeric and Geometric Patterns, Algebraic Expressions and Equations, Functions and Relationships, Geometry of Straight Lines, Geometry of 2D Shapes, Surface Area and Volume, Transformation Geometry, Data Handling, and Probability.
Learners work through structured lessons, worked examples, practice activities, quizzes, assignments, revision exercises, and examination-style questions. The course focuses on developing strong number skills, algebraic thinking, problem-solving ability, mathematical reasoning, and accurate interpretation of questions.
By the end of the course, learners should have a solid understanding of Grade 9 Mathematics and be better prepared for school-based assessments, examinations, and the mathematical demands of Grade 10.
